“Everyone needs a coach. We all need people that give us feedback. That’s how we improve”
– Bill Gates
What is life coaching?
Life coaching is about looking at where you are, then where you want to be and helping you to generate solutions to close that gap and as a result create more happiness and fulfillment in your life.
Finding Solutions
How does it work?
By spending time listening and asking powerful questions a life coach can help you find solutions to whatever it is that may be holding you back from your aspirations and your true potential. From these conversations a programme can be put together to support you in creating your desired outcomes.
Design your life
We all know what it means to design something, our kitchen perhaps our garden, even our whole house but our lives? Take steps to design the life you want.
Values
What do you value? Is what you are doing in your life aligned with your values? If it isn’t then something will feel wrong, and you may not even know why this is.
Purpose
Do you have a purpose? Fulfilment in life is derived from living in harmony with one’s primary values and life purpose.
Beliefs
Where did yours come from? Are they empowering or out of touch? Limiting or disabling beliefs can hold you back. They can be changed.
Who is Coaching For?
Working with a coach can help you explore any number of areas in your life. No matter what these are, dedicating time and effort to personal development brings about a sense of achievement clarity and wellbeing.
I'm not sure what my goals are?
What if I'm not comfortable with change?
How do I stay on track?
How much commitment is there?
I'm unsure where to start?
To achieve the results you want, you will need to change your attitudes or underlying beliefs. Building a good relationship with a coach will help you move forward with this change and they will provide support during your new journey.
Lack of knowledge or skill, the lack of a clear strategy or action plan can cause failure, but the biggest obstacle in the way of progress for most is the fear or failure. This fear can cause us to shelve our goals and dreams and never realise what we are capable of. A coach can help you to work through the paralysis brought on by fear and help you move towards your goals. We shouldn’t be afraid of failure its where the learning takes place.
A great coach can work with you to stay on track and overcome actions that sabotage your desires, plans, and dreams. They’ll support you through the fear, resistance, and panic that can arise when you are creating something exciting and new,
A coach will work with you to understand what fulfilment would be for you. Help to bring about living a life that is valued, purposeful, and alive, and in balance.
Because a coach is on your side, they can ask powerful questions that breakthrough your limiting beliefs.
What coaching is not
Coaching is not counselling or therapy
These two areas usually start from a perspective where something needs fixing. With Coaching the bias is towards working with someone who is healthy and strong enough to deal with the challenges of coaching.
Coaching is not mentoring
A mentor is someone who will guide you through a learning process. This person would normally be skilled and experienced and will offer you their skills and knowledge in this area. In effect they will be showing you what to do.
Coaching is not giving advice
A coach may offer suggestions and may discuss these with you but essentially a coach facilitates your own thought process allowing your inner coach to speak out.
About Me
I have had a varied career starting with nine years in the Royal Marines. This opened my eyes to the great outdoors, and I have since spent many years pursuing outdoor activities both for pleasure and for a career. My coaching began whilst working with a high level outdoor coach some 25 years ago and from this day until now I have found immense satisfaction in seeing people improve their performance whether that be in a canoe on a mountain or in their lives.
I have run my own business for over 15 years in the tourism and leisure sector and am no stranger to the challenges that running a business brings to bear. I have many interests which keep me occupied and purposeful. These range from walking my dogs on Dartmoor to climbing on the sea cliffs of North Devon and Cornwall. I also enjoy cooking, playing my guitar and learning French! I have a very practical approach to most things in life and always strive to get results. This said I try not to lose sight of the journey, which is the important part.
